Solar Saheli is a campaign to create rural women entrepreneurs and to build up a presence of solar energy in Rajasthan. Frontier Markets, a rural marketing, sales, and service distribution company, is engaged in providing access to affordable and quality solar solutions to low-income households in India.
The company has sold over 80,000 solar solutions and have created 225 retail points and 250 solar sahelis.
Today, at an event organized by the Frontier Markets and the International Finance Corporation (IFC) on “Increasing Access to Reliable and Affordable Solar Products in Rural Rajasthan,”
Sawai Madhopur MLA, Princess Diya Kumari today said the ‘Solar Saheli’ campaign is bringing respect, empowerment and income to women. Through such campaigns, women are coming in the forefront to embrace solar energy and bringing households towards reliable lighting, she said. Diya Kumari was speaking at the event at Diggi Palace.
She further added that in rural Rajasthan there are over 40 lakh households which are facing challenges without electricity. Though there have been impressive beginnings in the field of solar lighting, only four lakh households have had this access. This huge gap needs to be bridged with quality solar solutions for rural households.
The keynote address was given by John Kellenberg of IFC. Earlier, ‘Suraj ki Gullak’, an award winning film and ‘Suryoday’, a film on the ‘Solar Saheli’ campaign in Rajasthan were also screened.
