Agriculture (Including Agricultural Marketing), Department of Animal Husbandry, Fisheries, Horticulture, Gopalan.
Prabhu Lal Saini, a senior leader in the party is another of Chief Minister VAsundhara Raje’s favourites. Elected from the Anta, Baran district, he hails from a rural background.
Born in remote village Anwa and having studied in village school in Anwa and Doni, he completed his BA and LLB Tonk. A sarpanch of his own village from 1982 to 92, he knows grassroots politics like the palm of his hand. He also held the post of Pradhan of Deoli Tehsil of Tonk district.
Raje has faith in him and had given him the post of Agriculture minister in her earlier stint from 2003 – 2008. A third time MLA, Saini is one of the most powerful ministers in the Raje Cabinet. Raje trusts him as he belongs to the backward Saini-Mali caste. Incidentally Ashok Gehlot is also a Mali.
However, he insists that he does not believe in caste politics and takes along 36 communities.
Being a farmer himself, he has been sympathetic to farmers’ woes. Apart from speedy relief promised to farmers after Rajasthan witnessed crop damage due to unseasonal rain in March 2015, Saini has also plans to set up seed vigilance committees to ensure qualitative and quantitative availability of seeds to farmers.
