17 killed in road mishap near Udaipur


Jaipur, Dec 5: In a tragic accident, 17 people were killed and 28 others injured when a pick-up truck rammed into a standing truck today near Barolghata village in Pratapgarh district (422 km from here).

Out of the 17 killed, 11 were women. Most of those were killed were labourers. Out of 28, 16 of them have been referred to Udaipur while four others are critical.

According to police officials in Pratapgarh, the accident occurred around 7:30 pm today near Barol Ghata village. A standing truck, whose axle was broken, was being repaired on one side of the road. A pick-up van at a very high speed just collided into the standing truck, resulting in the death of 17 people.

Most of those killed were dailywage labourers, who worked on fields, construction sites at Choti Sadri, at least 35 km from the accident site, and returned to their villages everyday after work was over.

Expressing profound grief over the incident, Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje announced Rs 50,000 for the kin of those killed and Rs 25,000 for the injured from the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund.
