Jaipur, May 28: Jaipur witnessed another round of protests by jewellers today demanding withdrawal of the controversial one per cent hike in excise duty in non-silver jewellery.
This time the jewellers blocked the main arterial road of the capital city, Tonk Road and caused huge traffic snarls. They have warned of more violent protests in the coming days.
Their strike entered the 28th day today and they have threatened indefinite strike till the Central government withdraws the hike in excise duty. The stir has led to a loss of Rs 5000 crore worth of business till now, amounting to revenue loss of around Rs 50 crore.
The jewellers have also warned of blocking the highways if their demand is not met.
