Jaipur, April 5 : A case of stripping and bashing up of minor Dalit boys for allegedly stealing a motorbike in Rajasthan’s Chittorgarh district, came to light today after a video about the crime went viral today.
According to police, three boys aged between 16 and 17 years, had stolen a motorbike from the neighbouring Singoli area about four months back. On Saturday, they were seen driving the bike in the Baal village in Chittorgarh district. A villager, whose bike had been recently stolen, saw them and contacted villagers in neighbouring village of Laxmipura where these boys were then caught.
These boys were then stripped, tied to a tree, beaten up badly and paraded naked by a mob in Laxmipura. They were also supposedly detained at the police station over night. The video of the entire episode was caught on camera and has gone viral.
Chittorgarh SP Prasanna Khamesra however denied it is a case of Dalit atrocity. He said : “It is not a case of Dalit boys being beaten up. These three boys from the Kanjar community already have cases of theft lodged against them and have been challaned at least twice earlier. Kanjars have a notorious reputation in the area. The boys have confessed to the crime. And the mob, which beat them up, had people from all communities including Dalits. We have arrested six people today, who were part of the mob and identifying others as well.”
The six people arrested are namely Chotu Meena, Rajbir Meena, Ugam Meena, Shoban Lal Dhakaar, Nirbahya Dhakaar and Laxmi Kumar Dhakaar.
The boys were first taken to the hospital and then to the police station. Khamesra said these boys would be produced in the juvenile court today.
