Jaipur is all geared up to host another royal wedding reception after almost 20 years. The wedding saw the Jaipur royal family coming together after a long time as many of its members are entangled in legal disputes over its Rs 1000 crore property.
Jaipur’s most talked about queen, late Maharani Gayatri Devi’s grandson, Ajai Singh, 31, married Ambika Kumari Singh of Jodhpur royal family today in Jodhpur. Ambika is granddaughter of Prem Singh, who is related to the Jodhpur royal family and is also a known polo player. She is the daughter of Raguraj (Raghavendra) Singh, who is the great grandson of Jodhpur’s former king Maharaja Takht Singh. Ambika Kumari is now studying in Chandigarh.
The reception would be held today at the magnificent City Palace and would be hosted by Rajmata Padmini Devi. The invitees include erstwhile raja, maharajas from at least 23 royal families from across the country. Royal families from Tripura, Burdhwan, Kapurthala, Kashmir, Baroda, Jamanagar, Sirmour and others would be present at the wedding.
Ajai Singh is the son of Jai Singh and Rani Vidya Devi and looks after the hotel business of the royal family. His father Jai Singh is the second son of Jaipur’s erstwhile Maharaja Man Singh II and his second wife Kishore Kunwar.
Ajai Singh’s grandmother Kishore Kunwar also hailed from Jodhpur royal family.
Man Singh II had three queens, the first being Marudhar Kunwar and third was Gayatri Devi, voted as one of world’s 10 most beautiful women by the Vogue magazine. Gayatri Devi, Princess of Coochbehar, was a classical beauty and was considered a fashion icon in her days. Ajai Singh’s mother Rani Vidya Devi was said to be very close to Gayatri Devi. She is currently looking after two of Jaipur’s most famous schools started by Gayatri Devi. Maharani Gayatri Devi School and Maharaja Sawai Man Singh Vidyalaya.
