A hobby that helped him record his name in Limca Book
As a student, when he used to casually separate different coins that came to be sold among scrap at their utensils shop, he had never thought Coin Collection would become his favourite hobby. His fascination with the world of coins has now helped him record his name in the Limca Book of World Records.
Shyam Sunder Sadhnani, 55 from Beawar, has recorded his name in the Limca Book of World Records for his rich treasure of coins. His proud possession is worth over 5,000 coins from 363 countries. Right from old Greek coins to latest country Sudan, he has a rich variety of coins of all metals—gold, silver, brass, copper—including a wax coated bronze coin dating back to Chola dynasty.
In addition to the UN recognized countries, one would find coins of countries which have merged with other countries or do not exist.
He travels to exhibitions in Ahmedabad, Mumbai, Goa and other places in search of coins and he frequently goes to places like Pushkar with a good tourist influx. He also buys coins with the help of family and friends, now also online, thanks to his net savy daughters-in-law who help him enrich his collection.
The lightest coin in his collection weighs 0.5 gram while the heaviest is of 38 gram.
He is now working for another entry to the Limca Book of Records, this time for coins of 462 countries. His collection gives him immense joy, a sense of pride and above all, a way to get rid of tension. When he’s tense, he loves to go back to his collection and forgets all worries and tension.
