Jaipur, May 30 : The Anti Corruption Bureau (ACB) today arrested senior bureaucrat (IAS) and agriculture commissioner, Neeraj K Pawan and RAS officer Anil Agarwal for alleged irregularities and corruption in tendering process of National Rural Health Mission (NHRM).
Neeraj K Pawan is one of the youngest and important officers in the Vasundhara Raje government. He has held important positions and has been assigned important tasks.
The arrests were formally announced by ACB IG V K Singh. Both of them would be presented in ACB court tomorrow. Both these officers have been on Awaiting Posting Orders since the ACB raids and corruption allegations aurfaced.
Earlier this month, the ACB had conducted raids at seven locations in Jaipur including Pawan’s residence and offices. The raid followed complaints of irregularities against Pawan during his tenure as additional director for NRHM.
Those under a cloud with Pawan are a middle man, accounts officer and store keeper at the NRHM office.
The 2003 batch IAS officer was posted as commissioner, Agriculture department a few months ago.
The ACB was investigating the complaints for the last six months on the 18 cases lodged regarding irregularities in the NRHM tender process. It is being said that Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) has provided some important proofs against Pawan. A pen drive from middle man Ajit Soni has been seized, which enumerates the amount to be distributed amongst the involved people. According to ACB, Pawan was supposed to be getting 7 % of the bribe.
A huge amount of foreign brand liquor and jewellery was reportedly recovered from Pawan’s residence.
Pawan has been a centre of controversy earlier too with regard to buying computers with MNEREGA funds. ACB reportedly held a middleman name Ajeet Soni who played a key role in the tender process.
It is another big crackdown in Rajasthan after mining and petrol secretary Ashok Singhvi was arrested by ACB last September.
