Jaipur, June 4: Jaipur’s Jama Masjid will allow women to offer namaz in a separate enclosure for the first time.
They will also have a separate space for performing ablutions. Masjid committee members said the women would now be able to offer namaz after Ramzan. The holy month is expected to begin next week.
Zakia Soman of Bharatiya Muslim Mahila Andolan told Rajasthan Post that many other Jama Masjids allow women to offer namaz like in Delhi and Ahmedabad.
Zakia added : “Apart from Jama Masjid, other masjids in Jaipur have been permitting women to pray in their premises.”
According to religious experts Islam does not forbid women from going to the mosque. In fact, it was encouraged by the Prophet when he said, “’Do not prevent the female servants of Allah from going to the mosque…” The mosque is the center of the community, of access to Islamic education, and is key to fulfilling certain religious rites.”
