Jaipur, June 6 : The newly-opened Nahargarh Zoological Park seems to have become the talk of the town. Despite scorching heat, park officials claim at least 30,000 people visited the park on Sunday, the first day itself.
The park located in the vicinity of Nahargarh fort and is part of the Nahargarh Biological Park. Spread over 7.2 sq km,it will remain open for visitors from morning 8:30 am till 5:30 in the evening. It will remain closed on Tuesday.Tourist can sight animals closely in 21 of its large enclosures in the park.
Officials were taken aback by the footfalls as they expected not more than a few thousand visitors There was no entry fee charge on the first day of the park. With summer vacations on, families which are still in Jaipur, perhaps thought of what better way to utilise the day than be one with the nature, flora and fauna.
Visitors can see animals from close quarters like Leopard, Asiatic Lion, Sloth Bear, Caracal, and several species of Deer, Gharials, Crocodile, Pangolin Jackal, Wild Dog,Wolf Hyena,Jungle Civet and Fishing Cats,Ratel, Common and Desert Fox, Rhesus Monkey and Langur and many more. Park officials said “a bear will be brought from Jodhpur’s Machiya Park to pair up with another bear here”.
There are plans to bring in reptiles and other small animals and to shift the bird sanctuary to the Nahargarh Biological Park.
A lion and tiger safari may soon be in the offing, the deadline of which is set around 2017. Jaipur Development Authority will also grant Rs three crore for the project. The forest officials want to maintain cleanliness, safety and a peaceful ambience in the park.
