Short Eared Owl rescued in Jaipur
Jaipur, March 3. A Short Eared Owl (asio flammeus), badly injured by glass coated manjha was rescued by Team Raksha today.
It was injured on a field in Sikar and brought by someone to avail of medical help from from bird helpline. It was identified as Short eared owl and recorded for the first time by any organization in the city in the past 13 years.
The bird’s wing bone got broken and the wing had to be amputated. It will not be able to fly again but will soon be shifted to Jaipur Zoo in a bigger aviary.
The number of bird species getting injured or trapped due to manjha in Jaipur are increasing every year. Nearly 38 wild bird species have been hurt so far.
Short Eared Owl (Asio Flammeus) Owls are called short eared owl but their tufts or ears are not generally visible. They are found in open country and grasslands.
