Jaipur, March 26 : Rajasthan is seeing an increase in the number of wild animals- read panthers and tigers, who seem to be roaming about with abandon and are venturing out of their forest territories.
Even as panthers roam the streets of Jaipur and a proposal of building a boundary around the Jhalana forest is made in the Rajasthan Assembly, a tiger on Saturday afternoon, wandered out of the Ranthambhore forest reserve into the boundary of staff quarters of a luxury hotel, creating panic amongst the people there.
Eyewitnesses say the tiger probably came out of its territory to hunt a cow and feed on it in garden near the hotel staff quarters. It killed the cow first and fed on it later. It had eaten about 25 percent of dead cow, when people started shouting in fear. The tiger then jumped over the boundary of the hotel staff quarters of the most famous luxury hotel there.
Video grabs show the tiger trying to scale the boundary wall. It stayed there for while and later went back into the forest near Jhoomar Bavri late night as can be established from pug marks, say forest officials.
The dead cow was put in the area where the said tiger roams, so that it doesn’t come out of the forest anymore.
With the tiger back in the forest, people heaved a sigh of relief.
Meanwhile, Ranthambhore National Park, a world-famous tiger reserve in Sawai Madhopur, is now overcrowded with 62 tigers, as stated by the government in the Vidhan Sabha recently.
