Jaipur, April 9 : At least 84.15 % votes were cast today till 5 pm in the Dholpur bypoll, winning of which has become a prestigious issue for both BJP and Congress parties.
Long lines were witnessed before the 231 polling booths. Some of the EVM machines showed some errors initially, which were then rectified by engineers and as such polling was delayed in these booths.
AAP chapter has tweeted that the EVMs were being controlled in Dholpur as most votes were being cast in favour of BJP.
There were complaints about faulty EVM machines from about 18 places in Dholpur.
The voters in Dholpur used the VVPAT (Voter Variable Paper Audit Trail) machines for the first time in Rajasthan.
This system contains ballot unit, control unit and VVPAT and after the voter press button, a paper slip appears which contains the name of the candidate and the party symbol that verifies that the vote was cast correctly. The paper slip is visible for seven seconds before it gets dropped to a drop box. It is said to bring more transparency in the electoral process.
There is recommendation for repoll in at least one booth in Dholpur because of lapse on polling party’s part.
