Jaipur, April 13: Rajasthan government today declared a hike of four percent in the Dearness Allowance ( DA) for its state government employees.
The decision is likely to benefit over 6.5 lakh state government employees and over 3 lakh pensioners. The hike in DA comes into effect from January 1, 2017.
State government employees have been getting 132 per cent DA, which after today’s order, would go up to 136 percent.
The three month arrears from January to March will be deposited in the GPF account of the employees. The increased DA will be paid with the salary from April onwards. The decision will put an additional burden of Rs 800 crore on the state exchequer.
The government had increased the DA by 7 per cent from 125 to 132 per cent in November 2016. The DA would be paid to state government employees and pensioners appointed after January 1, 2004.
Just before the election year in 2018, the BJP government seems intent on keeping the government employees happy, which obviously constitute a large vote bank.
