BJP president Amit Shah’s three day Jaipur visit, which begins on Friday, has Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje and state BJP on their toes.
Coming on the heels of Congress’s vice-president Rahul Gandhi’s Kisan Aakrosh rally in Banswara yesterday, Raje may have a lot of explaining to do before Shah.
At least nine cases of farmer suicides in the last one month have been reported from Hadauti region, yet the Opposition allege there has been no response from the government yet on farm loan waiver.
Opposition leader Sachin Pilot had said that this government has neither been able to provide seeds and fertilizers on time nor has it been able to give them fair price of the crop. Farmers have no option but to sell their produce at a low price and, thus, are unable to pay agriculture loans.”
With farmers’ protests taking centre stage, Shah is likely to pose some difficult questions to Raje.
Moreover, the face-off with Rajputs over the encounter killing of dreaded gangster Anandpal, is also likely to come up in the meeting with Shah.
Raje will have to explain the shootout and the consequent protests by Rajputs – BJP’s loyal vote bank, over the issue.
Rajputs suspect that some Jat police officials deliberately shot down Anandpal who crossed swords with Jat criminals and also politicians.
Although the Rajput protest planned on July 22, has been called off after meetings with Rajput leaders, Raje’s own detractors in the party Narpat Singh Rajvi , former minister and son-in-law of former vice president Bhairon Singh Sehkhawat wrote to Shah directly complaining about how Rajputs were being oppressed.
Another of Raje’s rival Ghanshyam Tiwari, who openly rebelled against her by accusing her of corruption, may also get to meet Shah.
Moreover the Muslim lynchings in Rajasthan, especially Pehlu Khan in Alwar has been a sore point on Raje’s graph. With such incidents getting a negative feedback from the common man and with elections a year and a half ahead, BJP needs to face challenges and get cracking.
However, Raje being an astute politician herself, is leaving nothing to detail. She has asked her ministers to be fully updated about their respective departments and be able to answer anything he might ask. The party recently appointed 10 spokespersons, which were lying vacant till now.
Shah has a penchant for asking for details however minute it may be and is someone, who ensures that each booth-level workers’ queries do not go unanswered.
