Jaipur, Dec 22: The Jaipur Municipal Corporation (JMC) is on its toes to acquire a respectable SWachch Survekshan-2018 ranking after it ranked low in this year’s Swachch Bharat survey that ranked cities on sanitation.
Stringent action are being taken against commercial establishments who are flouting sanitation norms. JMC sealed the administration block of Gaurav Tower for three days for throwing garbage on road.
Similarly, three shops on MI road situated near Ganpati Plaza were sealed. The shop owners alleged the JMC is only holding shopkeepers responsible , however, it is not working to eradicate the root cause.
The popular shop of the Gulab ji chaiwale ,who is famous for serving tea since 1946 and known for his charity activities also faced the brunt of the action of JMC. Gulab ji ,92 fondly remembers many renowned politicians, film actors and musicians who visited his stall.Long serpentine queues of beggars and needy people can be seen every morning at his stall , where he serves tea to them free.
However, a JMC official said, “Action was taken as Gaurav tower shopkeepers were throwing the garbage on the railway line. Moreover, the compost plant for wet disposal was not installed despite notices were issued.”
The state will participate in Swachch Survekshan-2018 which will begin in January, where 500 cities with more than one lakh population will be judged on various cleanliness parameters.
The corporation is giving extra attention to fine offenders as the weightage of ‘processing and disposal’ component has been increased from 20 to 25%.
