Jaipur, April 19. The Datwas police station of Tonk district was all lit-up and bore a festive look on Akshya Tritiya on wednesday. The duty staff turned hosts and witness to a wedding ceremony as Mamta Mahawar, a MGNREGA worker tied nuptial knot in the premises.
The bride Mamta Mahawar had lost her father in childhood and also lost her only brother two years back. Since then, she was working hard along with her mother to make both ends meet and repay the loan taken during her brother’s illness.
She had worked as MGNREGA worker in police station premises so the staff was aware of her financial condition. Once when she didn’t get her overdue NREGA payment, she even had to lodge a complaint with the police.
According to SHO Dayaram Choudhury, she did get the payment after the Sarpanch was asked to look into the matter but still she could not afford the wedding expenses. So his staff came forward to take the responsibility.
The police station was well decorated, the staff played hosts to the bridegroom’s family and they all volunteered to bear the wedding expenses, he added.
