Girls refuse cycles as gifts, demand roads

Jaipur, Aug 8 : Amidst the hullabaloo of political yatras, a group of young school girls have laid threadbare the government’s claims of good work done in the last four years and protested in a unique way.

Girl students studying in class IX of Rajkiya Madhyamik Vidhaya in Lohawat, in Jodhpur, refused to take the bicycles awarded to them by the administration. They say when the road to their school is broken, potholed and damaged, what was the use of taking bicycles. They simply cannot ride on these roads.

Their simple contention – the government should first build the roads and then award them bicycles.

Even as government officials tried to convince the girls, they refused to budge saying they have right to use good roads.

As per a government scheme, the education department awarded bicycles to girl students who scored above 70 percent.
