Malpura tense after clashes

Jaipur, Aug 24 : This year the Kawariyas seem to be creating tension in many areas through which they are passing.

This time it was Malpura in Rajasthan’s Tonk district on Thursday when members of two communities clashed, leaving 14 injured. Now Section 144 has been imposed and Internet has been blocked in the area.

The police say the incident happened around 4.15 pm when a procession was being taken out by Kanwar Yatris.

“Kanwar Yatris were taking out a procession through a Muslim-dominated area. The yatris had an altercation with local residents following which some miscreants resorted to violence,” said IGP Ajmer range, Biju George Joseph.

He added that around 14 people, mostly Kanwar Yatris, sustained minor injuries in stone pelting. “At present the situation is under control and heavy police personnel have been deployed,” he said.

Earlier the Kawariyas had clashed in Uttar Pradesh, raising inflammatory slogans and instigating the other community.
